Thank you for responding so generously to our mended jeans project. As requested, here is a list of books on mending. There are lots of wonderful books available; however, these are ones in our studio reference library.

The last book is not specifically about mending, but it features hand-sewing and embroidery that you can use in your mending and other projects.

As mentioned before there are lots of talented people that focus on this topic in more depth, and I reccomend you check them out (links below). We are also happy to answer any questions you may have.

Here is the finished repair. This pair of jeans is from my son who is now 6' tall, and have grown out of them. The knee needed a patch, and I could also hem them. I'm happy I get a new pair of jeans. The patch only took a small piece of fabric, and looks pretty cute.

It's a rainy day, and the perfect time for some me

It's a rainy day, and the perfect time for some mending.

I spent last week focusing on some mending as part of our #csscraphappy event. It was mostly jeans that had various size holes.

I did not make a huge dent in my scraps, but I find the process quite relaxing and I love the results. For this repair I decided to use a piece of dark blue stretch denim.

Tip! Remember to make your patch a bit bigger than the area you are repairing.

This year we are starting off our Scrap Happy Challenge with some mending projects. I have several items; including jeans that need some repair, and lots of options for fabric patches.

Scrap fabrics are great for mending. Often you only need a small piece of fabric to get the job done. Mending can add a unique feature to your garment, and is a great way to extend the life of your wardrobe. Your mending can be visible or invisible.

Our Scrap Happy Challenge is on for 30 days from April 23rd. This is the third year of the event. The goal is to promote sustainable sewing, by getting the most out of our materials. Using scraps to make artistic or functional pieces, and to share our creativity with others.

Last year I made several quilted projects. Quilting is an excellent way to use scrap fabrics. My two favourite projects was an ipad case and a book cover (shown above).

Join us this year as we hope to share more fun projects. Use #csscraphappy to share your makes with us.

Crochet Corkscrew Spirals or Curly Cues

They are so fun and easy to make, and can be made in various lengths. You can add them to projects or make them into hair scrunchies. They look really cute as hair on crochet dolls and amigurumi.

I am adding the ones I make to a textile art project I am working on.

I did five double crochet (5 dc) in each chain.

Materials:
. Worsted weight yarn
. H/8 - 5.0mm Hook

I love vintage fabric and needlework. I have been fortunate to be gifted a few pieces over the years. However, most of my collection has been from estate sales or thrifted.

I talk a lot about how to thrift fabric and other supplies in my classes. I have decided to write a blog post about the topic, and will love to get your thoughts.

I used a green vintage floral fabric to make this seat cushion. The fabric is one of my favourite thrifted fabric finds. The colours are beautiful and the texture is so soft to the touch.
