This two-day natural dyeing workshop is an introduction to dyeing natural fibres with natural dyestuff (botanicals). You will learn how to harvest plants and flowers that will yield excellent colours in the natural dye pot. You will also learn how to achieve a range of colours from a source. Students will be working partially outside if the weather permits.
Students will create a natural dyed cotton mesh market bag or silk scarf project.
During the two days we will create dye baths and experiment with colour combinations. We will also use non-toxic mordants and modifiers. A selection of natural fibres (silk, cotton, linen, wool and bamboo) will be available for samples. You will create a dye journal with swatches and samples. You will learn everything you need to know to continue your exploration into natural dyes. Students are welcome to bring their own materials or projects (please contact us for details).
*This workshop is non-refundable, please review the date and confirm that it works for your schedule. This introductory course is intended for a sewist, fiber artist or hobbyist who is interested in the practice of natural dying.
