This two-day introduction to natural dyes will focus on how to dye natural fibre yarns (wool, cotton, linen, silk, and bamboo) with natural dyestuff (botanicals). You will learn how to harvest plants and flowers that will yield excellent colours in the dye pot.
We will experiment with colour combinations, mordants and a selection of plant materials.
You will receive one skein of wool or organic cotton yarn and a selection of natural dyes and yarn swatches. You will also create a dye journal with swatches and samples.
Students will learn everything they need to know to continue their exploration into natural dyes. This class will include how to prepare your materials, mordanting, preparing a dye bath and dyeing.
Materials kit is included; however, additional supplies will be required. Curb side pick up or Canada Post shipping is available for the kit and will be scheduled at the start of the class. Please note that shipping and handling cost are billed separately, based on Canada Post rates.
